Book Title: So That Nothing is Lost

Author: Rev. Dr. Kim Engelmann

Genre: Devotional

Release Date: May 19, 2026

You haven’t heard it all before! If you have been a Christian for a while, this six-week daily devotional will offer you new perspectives on familiar Biblical texts. These short poignant writings will inspire a deeper spiritual walk as they flesh out a more profound understanding of the deep love of Jesus, evident in the more nuanced themes in Scripture that are often overlooked.

How can we understand the miraculous catch of fish in a larger context?

How might the Emmaus Road event hold answers for us when it comes to our own suffering?

Why does a rooster crow as a sign of Peter’s denial?

Excerpt from the Book:

I become totally immersed in what I am doing and when I think I have spent ten minutes, I look up at the clock, and it has been three hours. My husband knows better than to try to engage me in conversation when I am writing. I don’t even hear him until he taps me on the shoulder.

We need to pay attention to the kinds of experiences that pull us into kairos time. When we experience kairos time, we experience heavenly time, and this helps us understand what living with God for all eternity might be like. Many have asked me, “Won’t it be boring in heaven to just be there for all eternity?”  Hardly, if kairos time pulls us in and engages us fully in the things we most love. It ought to be the most fulfilling life-giving form of existence imaginable. Heavenly time also gives us hints about our own lives here on Earth. Where we find our kairos time is often the place where we also find ourselves and our deepest fulfillment.

Lord, help me to know what ushers in the eternal kairos time for me. Make me attentive to this in my life and help me to engage in what You have created me to be and do. Help me to notice what fills me, what brings life to me, and pursue this end during my space/time existence. In Jesus’ Name. Amen

About the Author

It’s great being a Chaplain at the VA Medical Center in Palo Alto, working with our Veterans in addictions and mental health!  Hearing their courageous stories of faith inspires me to write about the healing, transforming power of Christ in whatever ways I can.  I think kids have a special knack for tuning into that spiritual reality that brings hope and meaning to our lives.  I had so much fun updating the Joona Trilogy and making it work for a new generation!  There is so much to write about when it comes to God, who may not always be understandable but who is always desirable.

I am married to a clinical psychologist husband who works out of Burlpres church in Burlingame CA.  We like to fish, play tennis, go to the ocean with our golden retriever and golden doodle, and sail.  Our three grown kids are nearby and we enjoy spending time with them too!  I am a Princeton Seminary graduate and a Boston University School of Theology Doctoral nerd.  I think that is all except I love it when people read what I write and comment.  So please do!
